Sunshine Week 4: Adventure
Dear Sunshine Parents,
What a fun week of adventure with Sunshine students this week! Lots of fantasy, mystery, and imagination in everything we did and a great finish to summer school. Here are some of the highlights from this week:
Monster Creation: This week we created monsters and they battled against each other using dice to calculate hit points and attacks. Monsters were created using a chart with different body shapes and features which were determined by the roll of a dice.
Treasure Hunt: Students painted white paper with coffee to create a stained and old looking piece of paper on which they drew a treasure map. Each team hid a treasure in a room of the school and renamed all the classrooms to unique places. For example, the 4th grade classroom became the Dragon's Cave and the Library became the Gate of Danger. Students gave their maps to other teams the treasure hunt commenced!
Chocolate Monsters: For our cooking activity we created Chocolate Monsters out of cereal and melted chocolate with candy eyes, a yummy and fun treat for the afternoon.
Comic Books: After creating a unique hero with a super power, students made their own comic book story about an adventure that their hero was involved in. Some worked in collaboration with others and shared a story with their characters while others chose their own adventure. Lots of great ideas brewing!
Mystery Game: Another fun activity was catching three "criminals" among the teachers in the school. Student made invisible ink out of lemon juice and wrote four clues. Using a candle, we applied the heat to discover the invisible messages. Detective teams worked together to find what teachers matched the clues and then questioned them about the "crime". All were captured thanks to excellent detective work.
