AIS - Summer School

Wow, I had a lot of fun during summer school. For the second week, we had some returning faces from the 1st week and our theme was adventure. At first they didn't quite understand what an adventure was and kept mistaking the word for "avengers" but throughout the week during our adventure based activities they began to understand what an adventure was. I taught them by giving them examples of adventures in different forms, like sky diving, or climbing a mountain, to even an astronaut in space. These are all examples of an adventure. On Tuesday the students found a map in a bottle, the map was a detailed floor plan of the 6th floor and they had to try and find the next clue, which led to the 7th floor. So the students and I set off to the 6th floor in search of the clue, which they didn't know what it was until they saw it. Dear Sunshine Parents, What a fun week of adventure with Sunshine students this week!  Lots of fantasy, mystery, and imagination in everything we did and a great finish to summer school.  Here are some of the highlights from this week: Monster Creation :  This week we created monsters and they battled against each other using dice to calculate hit points and attacks.  Monsters were created using a chart with different body shapes and features which were determined by the roll of a dice.  Treasure Hunt :  Students painted white paper with coffee to create a stained and old looking piece of paper on which they drew a treasure map.  Each team hid a treasure in a room of the school and renamed all the classrooms to unique places.  For example, the 4th grade classroom became the Dragon's Cave and the Library became the Gate of Danger.  Students gave their maps to other teams the treasure hunt commenced!
