Sunflower: Week 1

Hello Sunflower parents!

Summer school is off to a great start at Abroad International School! This week our theme was Heroes and Fairy Tales. We had a lot of fun exploring this theme and it created unique opportunities for students to learn, collaborate and develop their English skills.

Upper primary students teamed up with lower primary students to put on a performance based on the Folktale Peach Boy. In art class students created masks, costumes and a boat for the performance. In our cooking class we made dumplings like the ones Momotaro took with him and shared with the monkey, bird and dog on his adventure. We all had a good time as we learned about the hero Momotaro and his good deeds.

In math we used information about superheroes to practice converting units of measurement and practicing some arithmetic. Students converted from standard to the metric system and learned the difference in weight between a metric tonne and a standard ton.

For our language class students worked hard each day creating a presentation about their favorite fairy tale. The presentations were shared on Friday with each student doing a great job telling us about their favorite fairy tale.

We also had a fun cooling off at the park with a couple of water fights! Students and teachers all participated and with lots of laughs. We are all looking forward to having more fun next week.
