ELC Class Week 1 -Oceans

Summer School Week 1

Dear Sunrise Parents,

We made a great start to summer school! We had a lot of fun exploring, discovering and learning about the ocean. Every morning, we conducted our morning meeting  and introduced the daily schedule. During the routine, we did  morning greetings and sang a variety of action songs  to start our day. We were able to learn the routines quite easily.

Yuito grouped the seashells based on color.
Tomoki grouped the seashells based on color.
In math class, we had a lot of fun working on numbers and counting. We counted the number of  seashells in the tray  and matched them with the correct numeral. We also sorted and grouped the seashells based on color, size, weight and texture.

Momoka grouped the seashells based on color.

Yuito matched the seashells with the correct numeral.

In Language Arts, we looked at the letter O. We had a lot of fun walking around the classroom to find words that begin with the letter O. We then challenged our peers to list words that begin with the letter O sound.  We  then worked on our fine motor skills by  coloring, tracing and writing the letter O. We also enjoyed reading books related to the ocean. We read a book every day.

We watched the story of The Rainbow Fish

In cooking,  we made an ocean themed dessert. We used kiwi and grapes to make a sea turtle. We had a lot of fun cutting the kiwi and grapes into halves. We then used the seeds from the kiwi to make the eyes for the sea turtles. It was very delicious!

Momoka held a seashell to her ear to see if she could
hear to the ocean.
We did a lot of science and art activities throughout the week. We used a lot of materials in our environment to carry out experiments and make various sea animals.

We  made a paper cup octopus.

We explored numerous objects in the classroom  and made predictions whether they would sink or float.

We used play dough to make some ocean related items, such as seaweeds, fins and starfish. We then painted the play dough so that the items could resemble the  real thing.

We made jellyfish in a bottle craft.

We had a lot of fun pouring water into the bottle.

Momoka watched the jellyfish moved inside the bottle.
Tomoki added food coloring to the water.

We had a great time shaking the bottle and watching the jellyfish moving in the ocean!

Momoka was very proud to show the class her starfish skirt.

Have a great weekend,
Ms.Trichelle
