Sunflower Class Week 2 - Animals

The sunflower class has had another great week. The focus this week was animals both real and fantasy.

Students created their own animal sidekicks to accompany the characters they created last week. They went through various challenges, such as puzzles, riddles, and word scrambles, that gave them clues to make it through each level of the "rainforest."

In arts and crafts, students created different origami animals and rainbow fish using striped paper.

During math, students had to escape the "zoo" using math clue posted around the room. Each clue was the name of an animal. They used to animal names to figure out the secret password that would allow them to escape from the "zoo."

In science, students learned about how certain animals can stay warm in frigid climates. They placed their hands in ice cold water and it was difficult to keep their hands in the water. Then, they covered their hand in vegetable shortening and placed their hand back in the water. Several students commented that their hand felt a lot more comfortable in the water. The experiment got a little messy but I'm sure they learned the point!

For their cooking activity, students made their own pizza using tortillas, tomato sauce, and cheese along with other toppings. They used these toppings to create animal faces. They enjoyed every bite!
