Nursery Summer School Week1

Theme: Color We had a great first week of Summer school. <Circle time> Many different teachers, grade 7 students and preschool students came to visit us! It was very exciting to have lessons together with them! Ms.Monica from Pre-K Ms.Bon from Preschool, Mr.Soydan from P.E and Mr.Ben from Grade 6 class. Ms.Nao from Kinder Ms.Azusa from Primary <Art and Craft> We read “Colors for Zena” by Monica Wellington. We talked about colors and what colors we like. We did painting using straw and paper cups to make our own “Fireworks(Hanabi)”. We really enjoyed it.     <Water Play> We had a lot of fun at the Water play, too! It was such an exciting week!

Primary Summer School Week 4

  Theme - Fairy On Monday we explored the idea of fairy tales, and discussed the different features they share. We read Lon Po Po by Ed Young, and then watched looked at another version of the same story (Red Riding Hood). We then chose our favourite fairy tale and made shadow Puppets of the main characters.  On Tuesday we explored the story of The Princess and the Pea. We did a math challenge to see how many mattresses we could fit on a bed (the story only had 20). One of the students was able to fit more than 100! After that we had a dance party and did water play. On Wednesday we looked at the story of Cinderella.   We talked about how we could tell our favourite story, using the puppets we made on Monday. Later we did an experiment with a balloon car, and continued working on our puppets. Some students were ready to make their puppet theatre! We also had ICT! Summer School Primary Week 3

Theme - Colors We made our essential agreement and everyone drew a self portrait to sign it with.    On Monday we read Neon Leon by Jane Clarke and Britta Teckentrup.  We explored the idea of camouflage, and found interesting textures and colors in the classroom. We then chose an object and made our own chameleon.  We also had a scavenger hunt, recording how many things we could find of each color.  On Tuesday we read Swatch, the Girl Who Loved Color by Julia Denos.  We discussed how different colors make us feel and students drew a picture showing their favorite color.  We also did math coloring, water play and had a dance party!  On Wednesday we read This Book is Gray by Lindsay Ward.   We talked about what kind of story we could make about our favourite color, and students wrote them down.
