Summer School Primary Week 3

Theme - Colors

We made our essential agreement and everyone drew a self portrait to sign it with.

On Monday we read Neon Leon by Jane Clarke and Britta Teckentrup.  We explored the idea of camouflage, and found interesting textures and colors in the classroom. We then chose an object and made our own chameleon.  We also had a scavenger hunt, recording how many things we could find of each color.

On Tuesday we read Swatch, the Girl Who Loved Color by Julia Denos.  We discussed how different colors make us feel and students drew a picture showing their favorite color.  We also did math coloring, water play and had a dance party!

On Wednesday we read This Book is Gray by Lindsay Ward.  We talked about what kind of story we could make about our favourite color, and students wrote them down. Later they designed the front cover of their books.

On Thursday we read The Color Monster by Anna Llenas. Students labelled and filled jars with colors expressing different emotions. We then designed and Made 3D monsters.  We also had library time and enjoyed Water Play!

On Friday we learned about the festival of color - Holi and watched a Planet Earth mini-documentary about it! We played Jeopardy, Numberle and Pictionary.  At the end of the day we had a mini short film festival to wrap up the week!

Everyone worked hard and tried their best! It was a hot but fun week!
