Primary Summer School Week 2!

    ๐Ÿ‘ท๐Ÿšง๐Ÿ‘ทConstruction Week!๐Ÿ‘ท๐Ÿšง๐Ÿ‘ท

Our theme this week was construction! We had lots of fun learning about constriction sites and construction workers. We were even able to build some things of our own!

In math, We learned about measurement and using standard and non-standard units. In our first lesson we went around the room deciding how to measure each item with a non-standard unit, like our hands or a cube. In our second math lesson we used scraps of paper to make houses and then used a ruler to measure each part of the house.

First lesson

Second lesson

We read the Three Little Pigs and tried to put the story into sequential order. We reflected on what building materials were the strongest and why.

Then we had the opportunity to make our own house for the three little pigs! We had to design and build a house that could withstand wind. Our teacher was the wolf and used a fan to try and knock our houses down!

We practiced our architect and designing skills and used Legos as stamps to unlock our creativity and make pretend blueprints.

We learned about bridges and the strongest shapes. We were able to take what we learned and use our engineering skills to make paper bridges that could hold weight! We were VERY surprised at how many books paper could hold! Our record was 21 books! Amazing!

We had lots of fun at water play this week! It was a rainy week but we finally had a chance to go on Thursday!

On Friday we had a quiz on different construction machines and tools. And played some games to help up remember the different vocabulary.

We played a group game together to celebrate all the fun we had this week! Students had to assign titles like "fastest" "longest" biggest" without knowing the category. There were both laughs and groans when they discovered that the categories were silly things like "biggest thumb" or "fastest cleanup."

What a fun week at summer school! We were able to use our English skills to talk about books and learn different construction tools. We were thinkers and communicators when we designed our own bridges, and houses. We played games and made new friends! I cannot wait to see what we get to do next week!
